 Hull v LEEDS..........WYL 16th January 2010

On a bitterly cold day Leeds travelled to Hull to play for the first time in five weeks. The game took place on the excellent 3G facility at Hull University but the driving rain made it difficult for the team facing a sub zero breeze. So it was to be proved over the course of the game that the team playing into the wind/rain would be on the back foot.

Leeds were on the front foot from the kick off, taking the game to Hull and their vibrant passing game cut holes in the Hull rearguard time after time. Leeds dominated in every area and Callum Elson and Jack McGahan very impessive in the early exchanges. Leeds took the lead through Jonathan Nyantou and with Sheldon Muzvidiwa's   blossoming presence the Leeds attack looked awesome. The second goal came courtesy of a strike from distance from the robust Sam Vasey, who was lectured for his shirt lifting! Quite why Sam would remove clothing at minus 1 degree is beyond me, but a great strike anyway.Shortly afterwards a sweetly struck shot from Elson was deflected into the net and the 'Dubious Goals Board' awarded him the goal on the fact that his outstanding effort merited id. The half closed with a strike from distance by Scott Smith clawed away acrobatically by the Hull keeper. What a performance by Leeds who bossed every area of the pitch.

It was a different story in the second half with Hull in the ascendancy and although Luke Bennett and Aaron Wilcock stood firm with Scott Graham in the nets playing a major part a goal was due and a sweetly struck shot from the right hand corner of the box gave Hull hope. They should have had a second when a goal was judged offside but it clearly wasn't, so Leeds had a fortunate escape.

Leeds broke out sporadically and did create chances but their inability to keep the ball gave hope to Hull who powered forward. A mistake by two Leeds players saw the Hull striker with a clear shot at goal but his effort crashed against the bar.

Leeds overall deserved the points but in all honesty will have to retain possession a little better when they are in front and not take their foot off the pedal. Great 1st half but the effort took its toll in the second. Still boys an excellent 3 points against a good side!
