 Leeds Schools FA U11's 'B' V Scarborough Schools FA U11's              6th February 2010

Last time these two teams played it was on a glorious sunny morning back in September. Today by contrast it was a grey foggy backdrop with Leeds lining up in their white kit and Scarborough in their blue and white. Leeds FA 'B' were keen to put behind them a bad run of defeats despite at times spirited performances. Scarborough fielding some younger players were to face a determined and stalwart Leeds side who were all out to prove they deserved the right to wear the Leeds shirt.

Leeds won the toss and from the whistle it was they who looked the greater threat. Dominance in Leeds' midfield comprising of Adam Leadsford, Aidan Rodgers, Tyler Thompson and Charlie Simpson was to ensure the back line of Alex Barrett, Josh Copley, Brandon Kavanagh and Robert Flynn with Jake Croft in the role as sweeper were rarely threatened. Declan Conlon in nets was not really called into action due to the early dominance of the Leeds outfield players. Good use of the full width of the pitch by Leeds' meant there was space to play in the centre of the park.

After a period of Leeds dominance in the first five minutes, an Aidan Rodgers' effort on goal was spilled by the Scarborough keeper, only to fall to the feet of Leadsford who slotted the ball confidently into the goal. A resurgent Leeds side buoyed by their early dominance were to extend their lead with a second goal from Leadsford from a failed Scarborough clearance. Lone striker Ollie Armitage up front was to get his reward for persistence with Leeds' third goal just before the break after nice build up play from the flank from Croft and Rodgers. A late surge from Scarborough was ably dealt with by Conlon, who came off his line and kicked an advancing ball clear from outside the goal area in front of an approaching Scarborough attack.

Second half outfield subs saw Sam Armstrong, Liam Dyer, Callum Hamilton join the fray and in the Leeds net Dan Resendez was to take up residence. In the first few minutes Leeds were to resume where they left off in the first half; A searching pass from Hamilton in defence through to the feet of Thompson was to result in a deft first touch and low rasping shot which evaded Scarborough's keeper diving to his right for Leeds' fourth. Shortly after, Jake Croft was to be denied his first and Leeds' fifth due to the referee adjudging him off-side. On a counter attack from Scarborough seeking to narrow the margin, Resendez was to confidently save a speculative shot on goal.

In the final ten minutes of the game, Josh Copley back on the field in a midfield role was to be provider to Leadsford for his third and Leeds' fifth. A cross from wide providing Leadsford with a well earned hat trick. Josh Copley was to seal an emphatic Leeds performance with his first and Leeds' sixth. A threaded cross from Leadsford, falling to the feet of Copley who lobbed over the head of Scarborough's besieged keeper.

The 6 - 0 Leeds victory was well deserved and one the spectators were baying for. As one of Leeds' team was heard to say, "… bring on next Saturday". Hopefully the win will galvanise the team's confidence and provide the catalyst for a good run for the team for the remainder of the season. Every player on the team contributed to a memorable performance and a well deserved win.
