U11 Match Reports
Huddersfield Town Academy v Leeds City Boys 3rd September 2008
Syngenta Sports ground, Huddersfield
It was always going to be a tough start to the season and so it proved. A well-drilled Huddersfield Town Academy team gave Leeds City Boys few opportunities to show the ability they had demonstrated over the trials in the summer or to show what they are going to be capable of over the season to come.
The game, however, was never going to be about winning and losing, but more of a chance for boys to put down a marker for the next few matches and to get to grips with the increased pace at this new level. The only opportunities for Leeds City Boys arose from a free kick from Grady Marshall which found its way on to the crossbar and over. After that, chances were few and far between with Huddersfield taking control over all areas of the pitch for large parts of the game.
Having been overrun for much of the first half of the match, Leeds defence started to show much more solidity in the second part of the match, perhaps indicating some more encouraging signs for the year once the newly constructed team has started to gel.
In the end the Academy team ran out easy winners despite the hard work of Scott Townend in midfield, who showed great determination both on and off the ball.
The boys and the management team were all disappointed with the manner of the defeat, but some hard training over the next few weeks should ensure improvements in the team in all areas of the pitch.
