v York at Bishopthorpe Saturday 4th October
York 3 v Leeds City Boys "A" 0
The highs of last week were soon forgotten after this lacklustre performance from Leeds who are much more capable than they were able to display in this defeat against a competitive York outfit.
Leeds were on the backfoot right from the kick off. Possession was conceded all too easily and but for some poor finishing by the York frontman, his team could have been one up in the first few minutes.
The Leeds team found it difficult to move the ball from midfield through to the strikers. In contrast, York broke quickly from midfield and only a timely headed clearance from Drake prevented the home team from taking the lead yet again.
The Leeds keeper, Crook, was kept busy and pulled off a series of impressive stops before York were eventually able to break the deadlock. The goal, however, was a gift. An horrendous mix-up in the Leeds defence meant the hopeful ball upfield cleared all in the Leeds defence, leaving the grateful York attacker with a tap in - a goal out of nothing but by half-time, it could have been worse.
Half time 0 - 1
Leeds managed a bit more life in the second half. Townsend had an early effort on goal bounce in front of the keeper and cause him some difficulty. A series of corners showed how vulnerable the York defence could be but Leeds failed to capitalise on their half chances. Ingram's work in defence became much more assured as he tried to stem the tide.
Just as it was looking like no other team would score, Leeds found themselves 3-0 down to 2 well taken goals from York. The Leeds midfield and defence seemed unable to deal with the desire of the York team.
In the last few minutes, Pattinson had 2 good chances to pull back the deficit, but both went narrowly wide after all the hard work had seemingly been done. Leeds were, however, second best in this encounter and not even two late goals could have disguised this below par performance.
