Last week saw the boys embark on their annual Autumn tour to the Walsall area.On Friday the 'A' team dispatched Wolves 5-1 with a brace from 'Johnny on the spot' Scott Townend and further goals from Oscar Turnbull and Ross Dickinson and Jack Carr. This was a very strong performance from Leeds with Daniel Sefton and Jordan Emery outstanding for Leeds at the back.
The 'B' team produced a goal fest to account for Wolves 'B' 7-1 and were far too strong for their opponents in all areas of the pitch and Grady Marshall and Mitch Pattinson both scored hat-tricks which included two marvelous solo efforts from each boy. The icing on the cake was provided by a final goal from Kristian Smith.
Saturday morning saw the 'B' team take on the Sutton Coldfield team and achieve a 4-0 victory. Ryan Bedford led the way with a thunderous strike from 25 yards and further goals were added by new signing Ben Hinchcliffe, Kristian Smith and Grady Marshall. Leeds were dominant in every area of the pitch and in reality could have scored more, but the boys now look more relaxed playing at District Level.
The final game of the tour was between South Birmingham [newly crowned area champions] and Leeds 'A'. and what an exciting affair it turned out to be. Leeds had the lion's share of possession but failed to make their superiority pay and Birmingham were very dangerous on the break. Leeds had two strong claims for penalties turned down and this spurred them on to bigger effort. Tom Elliott played the ball down the flank to Jack Waters who released Ross Kershaw down the left flank. Kershaw sent a curling cross in and an acrobatic header by Scott Townend flicked the ball home for a deserved opener. Shortly after this Waters was pulled down again in the area and the referee awarded the penalty. Waters coolly slotted home and everyone thought that was that! Unfortunately for Leeds a careless foul on the edge of the box resulted in a tantalizing free kick being headed past Ross McKenna into the Leeds goal. A few minutes later Birmingham scored an undeserved equalizer with an outstanding strike into the roof of the net from 30 yards. A sense of injustice fired Leeds on and two marvelous chances to snatched the winner were spurned. All in all football was the winner, however, and both teams showed signs that this will be a good season
