DROITWICH SPA 3 LEEDS SCHOOLS FA 5
Leeds made the most of their trip to Droitwich with an improved performance and a well deserved victory in the second game of their tour to the Midlands.
An eleven a side encounter played on a three quarter size pitch allowed all eleven girls in the squad that travelled to play from the start. Leeds were the first team to create an opening when a shot from Victoria was deflected the wrong side of the post for a corner. Shortly after Droitwich threatened the Leeds goal but two good tackles by Kasey prevented the home side from getting a shot on goal. Ten minutes in to the game Leeds did take the lead when Victoria lost her marker and met a corner from Fern on the right to steer the ball in to the corner of the net.
Minutes later the lead was nearly extended when Amy rounded two defenders before getting a good strike on goal that the keeper did well to save. A good passing move by the home side put through their striker for a goal scoring opportunity but Roisin was quick to spot the danger and came out of her goal to make a good save. Droitwich continued to press and when a clearance fell to one of their players on the edge of the area her shot went in off the post for the equaliser.
A good pass from Fern down the right side of the field resulted in a chance for Ella who saw her shot pushed on to the crossbar and over. The Droitwich defence struggled to clear another Leeds attack and Holly was unlucky not to score as the keeper saved well to push the shot round the post. A good cross by Nicole from the resultant corner led to a scramble in the Droitwich penalty area and Emma was in the right place at the right time to turn the loose ball in to the Droitwich goal to restore Leeds advantage.
The home side were nearly on level terms immediately after however when a shot hit the inside of the Leeds post and rolled across the goal line but Charlotte was on hand to clear the danger before two attackers could react. Chloe cut out another attack by the home side and a good pass gave Nicole the chance to run at goal before unleashing a shot which the keeper could only parry and Emma was on hand again to score her second and ensure Leeds went in at the break leading 3 - 1.
Leeds were caught out at the beginning of the second half when a long ball over the top of the defence resulted in the Droitwich attacker running through on the Leeds goal to reduce the arrears to 3 -2. Both teams appeared evenly matched and tried to attack at every opportunity. A cross from the right by Charlotte ended with Ella having a shot on goal; Fern and Amy also had shots blocked. Roisin made a good save in the Leeds goal to turn a shot round the post and Chloe and Kasey got in some telling tackles in the Leeds defence.
Following another Leeds corner the ball broke to Victoria at the far post who placed a good shot wide of the keeper to score her second and Leeds fourth goal. Leeds were now on top and scored again shortly after to seal the win when Rebecca ran on to a pass at the edge of the area and shot low and hard in to the bottom corner of the Droitwich goal.
Droitwich did score again in the final minutes but this turned out to be a consolation goal and the game ended with the final score Droitwich Spa 3 Leeds Schools FA 5
