WETHERBY TIGERS V LEEDS SCHOOLS FA                               25 OCTOBER 2008

On a cold and blustery day Leeds visited Wetherby and there was not much between the two teams in the opening exchanges with plenty of effort and hard tackling by both sides.

Wetherby's initial tactics appeared to be to get the ball in behind or over the Leeds defence but Molly in the Leeds goal was alert to the danger and on at least two occasions came off her line to clear the ball. Leeds did have a number of half chances and were winning the corner count but the first real chance fell to Wetherby; the home striker's shot appeared to come back off the underside of the crossbar but the referee disagreed and awarded the opening goal of the game to the home side.

Leeds nearly drew level when Nicole played a one-two with Victoria before setting up a chance for Ella but her shot went just wide of the post. Holly got in behind the home defence shortly after and a good shot was deflected wide of the goal for a Leeds corner.

Wetherby should have increased their lead when their attackers outnumbered the defenders but Molly came out of her goal and dived at the feet of one attacker to save well and the first half ended with Wetherby Tigers leading 1 - 0.

Early in the second half Emma nearly put Leeds back on level terms but her shot was just the wrong side of the post. Leeds were level shortly afterwards however when good work by Fern on the left and a pass inside led to Ella shooting in to the corner of the Wetherby net.

Wetherby pushed forward to try and regain the lead but when Chloe broke up the attack, it resulted in Leeds breaking at the other end and Amy rounded the last defender before firing the ball in to the back of the net to give Leeds the lead. Leeds increased their advantage shortly after when a corner from Fern was turned goal bound by Ella and the defender on the line could not prevent the ball from entering the goal.

A breakaway by Wetherby ended when a shot was saved well by Molly but the rebound fell to another home striker who looked certain to score before Kasey got in a good block and then a tackle to clear the ball. Another attack by the home side was also foiled, Chloe making an excellent tackle as Wetherby tried to get back on terms.

As the game drew towards its conclusion Victoria picked up a loose ball in midfield and found Ella who in turn picked out Fern and another good shot made the score 4 - 1 to Leeds. Only a good save by the Wetherby goal keeper to push a shot from Emma over the bar prevented a further Leeds goal.

Final score; Wetherby Tigers 1 Leeds Schools FA 4.
