LEEDS U13s 5 SOUTH NOTTINGHAM U13s 1 - SATURDAY NOVEMBER 15th
-
It was a surprisingly mild morning at Rodillian, but the recent rain had left the pitch in a claggy condition. Leeds started brightly and quickly had Notts under pressure down both flanks. Will Boyle and Luke Porritt down the left were given space to link at pace. Porritt's cross found Callum Pilkington whose shot was over the bar. The first goal soon followed, Ben Nyaswenta and Pilkington neatly combining for Jamie Lloyd to nip in and finish neatly.
Leeds were ripping South Notts apart down the left and another Boyle / Porritt combination again found Pilkington who this time made no mistake. The third soon followed again down the left. Joe Boylan started the move sending Luke Porritt clear. The cross found Callum Pilkington to smash home for his second of the match.
South Notts seemed powerless to stop the foraging Porritt by fair means and when he was fouled, Josh Barden stepped up with a free kick to Niall Heaton, whose excellent first touch gave him the room to hit the back of the net.
Despite the Leeds dominance, South Notts were resilient and showed character to claim a goal just before half-time. The Leeds defence resorted to "head tennis" instead of clearing and despite Josh Walsh's efforts the ball crossed the line. Half-time 4-1.
The second half was a bit of an anti-climax compared to the first. South Notts looked to close Leeds down and the game did not flow as well on the difficult surface. Leeds did however manage to create chances, Niall Heaton's long range effort was just wide and Will Boyle had a number of close efforts, before taking the Goalkeeper's jersey to replace Josh Walsh.
As the game entered the final minutes two similar chances were created. Callum Pilkington showed great vision to send Jamie Lloyd through only for his shot to slide past the post. Shortly afterwards Lloyd turned provider as his perfect through ball allowed Spencer Lund to burst through and made no mistake with an excellent finish. Full-time 5-1.
It was a game of two halves with Leeds dominance in the first virtually ending the game at half-time. South Notts to their credit regrouped at half-time and showed determination to limit the damage. The Leeds team played some excellent and entertaining football. Bring on Liverpool which will be an interesting test for the Leeds team.
