Last season Leeds played their best football after Christmas and maybe this is the match that turns our season around because make no mistake a victory against any professional club is a tremendous achievement. We now know that when Leeds City Boys get the chance to play on a fantastic playing surface they're a match for any team as their true football ability rises to the surface, from Brandon in goal to big Jack and Kieran up front everyone played their part. The match was split into three 20 minute sections, the first saw honours even with Leeds taking the lead when a Shaun Gibson pass was clinically finished by Kieran Booth. Doncaster responded with a well worked equalizer but as the game progressed into the second 20 Leeds took control of the match. The five man midfield works well when up against a team who want to play football in the right manor rather than playing route one football, Hebditch, Gibson and the highly impressive Rzonca were like a pack of rotweillers snapping at the heels of anybody in a blue and white shirt and their distribution was at times a joy to watch. Behind midfield the Leeds defence was in a none shall pass mood creating a human shield around the Leeds goal. Elliott Jewitt enjoying the conditions and looking composed, Sam Williamson a man amongst boys and Adam Jameson reading the play like a seasoned professional, it's testimony to how well they played that goalkeeper Brandon was rarely called into action although like all good keepers his constant talking to his defence means he's always involved. When Leeds took the lead in the closing minutes of the second 20 it was no more than they deserved, Callum Rzonca reacted first in the penalty area to hit a sublime reflex shot into the right hand corner that gave the keeper no chance.
The last 20 again was a more even contest, Mr. consistency Sam Capitano again showed that he's by far the most versatile player at City Boys, Tom Clarkson, Lucas Smedley, Ali Unsworth and Danny Powell all worked their socks off out wide and the strength of Jack and the sharpness of Kieran up front always had the Doncaster defence on their toes, with 5 minutes to go lady luck for once was on Leeds side when within a bizarre 15 second period Doncaster managed to hit the woodwork 3 times but nobody could begrudge Leeds their victory.
What a performance from Leeds and against such quality opposition, we now look forward to the visit of Warrington.
