After last weeks disappointing display against Sheffield Leeds coach Steve Wales decided a new formation was required, 3-5-2 was preferred to 4-4-2. The experiment had worked well in midweek training in a practice match against the giants of the U13's and a 6-2 score line in Leeds favour today suggests it will be used again. Certainly the 3 centre backs of Williamson, Jewitt and Jameson looked comfortable with their new role, it was Jameson who created the first goal moving forward out of defence out muscling 2 South Notts players and creating an opening for Tom Lyman, Tom made no mistake rounding the keeper to put Leeds 1 up. New wing backs Dan Meston and Lucas Smedley had mixed fortunes, Lucas was relishing the freedom to move forward and looked dangerous down the left, Danny unfortunately had to leave the field early when he picked up an injury. Notts were struggling in midfield with Gibson, Hebditch and Rzonca snapping at their heels and denying them space and with Tom Lyman's strike partner Jack Bagnall in one of his rampaging moods it wasn't long before Leeds got a second, once again it was that man Lyman who was on hand to punish a poor clearance by the Notts keeper. The only surprise of the first half was that Notts managed to pull a goal back although goalkeeper Brandon Linley should be commended for pulling off a great double save only to see the third attempt hit the back of the net, half time 2-1.
Leeds showed their intent not to let this one slip from the first minute of the second half when a Sam Capitano shot flashed just past the post. The pressure was mounting on the Notts defence, Kieran Booth and Danny Hebditch both had shots cleared off the line and when Jack Bagnall made it 3 after a good pass by Tom Clarkson it was no more than Leeds deserved. The third goal really knocked the stuffing out of Notts their heads dropped and Leeds were allowed more space. Leeds took full advantage, Jack Bagnall scored his second and Leeds 4th with a thunderous left foot shot, the lively Callum Rzonca strolled round the keeper to make it 5 and Tom Clarkson completed the rout scoring his first goal for City Boys five minutes from time to make it 6, Notts scored a late consolation but 6-2 was no more than Leeds deserved.
The new formation certainly worked today as this was a much improved Leeds performance.
